Dynafit Tour 96 2018 - 2017 Review by A Better Ski

2017-18 Dynafit Tour 96 Review by A Better Ski

Dynafit has redesigned it’s entire line, new for 2017-18, three categories of skis clarify intended use.  The Tour 96 is an uphill oriented lightweight ski that is versatile enough to ski in all condition found in the backcountry.

2017-18 Dynafit Tour 96 Ski Review

Size: 184cm

Shape: 127-97-111

Turning Radius: 21m

Weight: 1600g/ski

Days: 1

Riders: Chris

Conditions: Dense Powder, Chop

Boots: Scarpa Maestrale RS

Bindings: Dynafit Radical ST 2.0

Ski Personality:  Paulownia core, with carbon stringers, and plenty of traditional camber gives this ski a lively and energetic feel.  Paired with a light swing weight, this ski was highly enjoyable in the trees.

On the Snow Feel:  A really fun and natural ride, lets you ski without thinking too much about it.

Turn Initiation and Carving:  Dynafit milled out that tip of the Tour 96 in order to reduce ski weight, they did a good job leaving enough mass to reduce tip slap on groomers.  Edge to edge is lively and quick with plenty of snappy rebound but tail rocker allows you to release the turn at will.

Speed:  With the exception of chop, the ski was really confidence inspiring, stiff and relatively damp, the Dynafit Tour 96 doesn’t mine being pushed in most conditions, just be aware of its limitations as you cruise into any debris.

Powder: Not a powder specialist, but the Tour 96 did a really good job in soft snow.  The rockered

Uneven/Variable Terrain:  The Tour 96 is a mid-width lightweight ski deflection is expected, the good news is, that tip and tail rocker allow for a clean release and as long as you keep your speed in check it will ski fine.

Flex:  Med-stiff throughout

Touring:  I would imagine, if you are reading this, that you are considering adding the Dynafit Tour 96 to your quiver as a touring setup.  Lightweight enough for big days uphill, versatile enough for all conditions and throw in Dynafit’s STELLAR skin attachment system and you may have the perfect setup.  Now the hard question…which binding?

Overall:   The Dynafit Tour 96 is aimed at the uphill oriented skier that is looking for a ski that he/she can count on daily.  This ski will be light enough for you to enjoy on the skin track or when they are on your back but stout enough to rip back toward the car at the end of the day.
