Waterproofing and Breathability: The Outdoor Research Trickshot pant offers some decent waterproofing and serious breathability. It is made with Pertex Shield+ which is one of the most breathable materials out there. When you combine that with a soft-shell pant you get some pretty great breathability. I would say the only downside is the brushed tricot liner that makes these feel a bit heavier and warmer than a traditional softshell. I don’t feel it hinders breathability a lot, but it is noticeable. Pertex Shield+ waterproofing is also pretty good. I wouldn’t put it on the same level as Gore-Tex, but it is definitely approaching Gore-Tex like protection. It would be great for just about any skier, except for maybe those who ski in really wet snow or rain all of the time.

Fit: The Outdoor Research Trickshot pant has standard fit that is pretty true to size. I have found that most OR pants fit really well in the waist and legs, but do run slightly tight in the mid-waist section. The pant is made with a stretch material that moves with you, so the tighter fit isn’t terrible. The rest of the fit is really good, and it feels comfortable and flattering.

Warmth: The Outdoor Research Trickshot pant is much warmer than most soft-shell pants. That’s because it is lined with a soft fleece liner. It’s still not a super warm pant and probably not best for resort riders in cold places. However, it’s almost perfect for hard riding resort skiers, or backcountry skiers boot packing to their favorite stashes. There is room underneath for layering if you need to.

Features: The Outdoor Research Trickshot pant is a pretty high end technical shell with serious breathability and waterproofing. It also offers a comfortable stretch fit that is pretty true to size. The zippers are waterproof, and seams fully sealed. The pant also has articulated knees, a RECCO reflector, and both inner and outer vents.
