Obermeyer Malta 2016 Review by A Better Ski

The Obermeyer Malta is a pretty standard resort pant with a decent amount of waterproofing and enough skier specific features to enjoy a day on the snow.

Obermeyer Malta Insulated Ski Pant Review

Tester: Cindy

Pant Size: 8

Matt’s Specs: Sizing Info

Waterproofing and Breathability: The Obermeyer Malta has a 15k Hydroblock Pro fabric for waterproofing and breathability. This is Obermeyer’s mid-level waterproof fabric, and would do a decent job for those who are going to see some wet weather on occasion. It probably won’t hold up well in an area that is going to see wet snow and rain for a large portion of the season. Still, this will be plenty for most causal skiers, and overkill for skiers that won’t see much for wet weather.

Fit: The Obermeyer Malta is slightly on the small side. Our tester is a size 8 in most jeans, but found the Malta to be tight. It does seem to have a regular fit, but even though the waist fits, the thighs are really tight. The legs are roomy enough for layers. If you have a similar body type to our testers, you’ll probably want to size up. However, if you have smaller thighs and/or a smaller butt, you’ll probably be okay going with your normal sizing.

Warmth: The Obermeyer Malta has 40g of insulation. This is a moderate amount for pants, but probably be okay for most mildly cold days on the snow. If you run cold and want the warmest pant out there, this isn’t it. However, I think most people could use this all season long as long as you had a good base layer for the really cold days.

Features: The Obermeyer Malta is a standard resort pant, but does have a few ski specific features that we like. The Malta does have articulated knees, and a Ski Contour design for added mobility. There is only one front pocket, and one back pocket. Both of them are okay, but they are a bit tight because of placement and size. The knees and butt are reinforced for some added durability. Unfortunately there are no leg vents for air flow.

Bottom Line: The Obermeyer Malta is a pretty standard mid-level resort pant. It has decent waterproofing, and moderate insulation, and will keep you warm and dry on the snow.
