Armada Basin 2015 Review by A Better Ski

The Armada Basin Gore-Tex Pro 3L pant is Armada’s most bomber pant. The Armada Basin has a removable stretch bib to help keep the snow out when it’s deep. If you don’t want to use the bib, you can remove it and use the Armada Basin as a bomber pant. A 3 layer Gore-Tex Pro membrane will ensure that you stay dry no matter which way you choose to use the Armada Basin. Gore-Tex Pro is also one of the most breathable fabrics we’ve used. This is great for backcountry or high activity use. If that’s not enough, Armada designed the Basin with a Crossflow vent system that puts vents on the inner and outer portions of the hip and leg. In addition the Armada Basin has a Gore Microgrid backer that helps the fabric to breathe even better, and reduce bunching with mid layers. Sure the Armada Basin is a hard-shell, so it won’t be as breathable as a soft shell, but the Basin has superior wet weather protection, and very solid breathability. Plus with the ability to remove the bib, you can stay cool when hiking to that favorite stash. The pockets are placed pretty well, and big enough for most of the gear we carry. I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more pockets, but then again they tend to add weight and bulk. As is, the Armada Basin has a relatively streamlined look. The fit is Armadas Tech fit, and pretty true to size. The pant is definitely roomy, but not super baggy like most freeride pants. They do have a lot of room underneath for layering, and the articulated knees allow for better mobility whether hiking or skiing. The outer layer does feel pretty rugged, and Gore-Pro is known for decent durability. Overall the Armada Basin is a bomber pant for serious skiers. It would make a decent backcountry pant, and definitely rock solid on those deep resort days.
