Arc'Teryx Sawatch 2016 Review by A Better Ski
The Arc’Teryx Sawatch is a mid-weight soft-shell pant. Soft-shells are great for those who need a little extra breathability for high activity backcountry or resort skiers.
Arc’Teryx Sawatch Pant Review
Tester: Matt
Pant Size: M
Matt’s Specs: Sizing Info
Waterproofing and Breathability: The Arc’Teryx Sawatch soft-shell pant is designed for high output activities. It is constructed with a highly breathable Trusaro material. The only downside to soft-shells is that they don’t provide a high amount of waterproofing. The Sawatch pant has a DWR coating for water resistance, but nothing substantial for water proof protection. The Sawatch is designed for those skiers that need a high amount of breathability, but won’t be skiing in wet weather.
Fit: The Arc’Teryx Sawatch has an articulated fit with Arc’Teryx e3D patterning. This gives the pant articulation in the knees and extra room in specific areas for layering underneath. I like the e3D fit as it seems to be the truest to size while still offering a good amount of mobility.
Warmth: The Arc’Teryx Sawatch isn’t a very warm pant. It’s a 3-layer soft-shell without insulation. It is designed for highly active skiers that are going to be working hard to find the perfect run. If you’re a resort skier that takes the lift and always run cold, the Sawatch isn’t your pant.
Features: The Arc’Teryx Sawatch is a pretty standard soft-shell. It has a good deal of breathability, and a comfortable soft-shell construction. The Sawatch has several okay pockets, waterproof zippers, waist line adjustability, and suspenders.
Bottom Line: The Arc’Teryx Sawatch is a pretty standard soft-shell pant. It’s good for those high activity skiers who need extra breathability, but aren’t going to see a whole lot of wet weather. The Sawatch is a comfortable, and functional for the right skier.
