2018 Mountain Hardwear Exponent pant Review by A Better Ski

This is the Mountain Hardwear Exponent pant.  This shell of a pant was designed to protect against wind and rain while allowing for maximum breath-ability for active days.  Let’s take a closer look.

Tester: Dan

Size: L

Waterproofing and Breath-ability: These pants utilize VaporDry™ which allows for maximum breath-ability from evaporation while staying safe and dry from the elements.

Warmth:  The Mountain Hardwear Exponent pant is just a shell, offering little in the way of insulating warmth.  These pants are a good choice for warmer spring-like conditions when the snow is wetter than it is frozen.  They are also a great choice for back country touring, hiking, or even jogging in the rain.

Fit:  I liked the way these pants fit.  They were light and loose feeling with a slick, waxy feel.  The waist was elastic for maximum comfort-ability.

Features: VaporDry™ offers unmatched comfort and waterproof-breathable performance; Stretch-comfort partial elastic waist with drawcord adjustment; Enhanced knee articulation for outstanding range of motion; 40D ripstop shell fabric is exceptionally light and packable and still reliably durable; 12″ ankle zips with snap closures; Water-resistant PU zippered thigh pocket

Bottom Line: The Mountain Hardwear Exponent pant lightweight, pack-able breath-able shell great for active days.  Perhaps the only thing I don’t like about these pants are the pocket choices.  Instead of hand warming pockets, these pants have one large cargo pocket over the right thigh.  I never understood why anyone would want to carry something over their thigh, especially on active days.  To me, a cargo pocket placed here makes no sense at all. Just give me a couple of hand warming pockets with zippers and call it a day.
