2018 Descente Rover pant Review by A Better Ski

Today I took a look at the Descente Rover pant.  At first glance they seemed to be a well constructed and comfortable shell that would make a great addition to your layering system or for warmer early and late season conditions.  I am a fan of the way Descente makes their pants; simple and functional.  Lets see if these pants hold up to my expectations.

Waterproofing and Breath-ability: The Descente Rover pant has a 20k waterproofing rating which will allow this pant to repel water in any conditions except for a full on rain storm. Under winter conditions, this waterproofing level will keep water from getting in. After a couple of years use now I can report that under heavy, wet snowfall, this material will start to soak through after an hour or so. If you are planning on being in heavily wet conditions, I would think about picking up something made from Gore-Tex.  For all other conditions, these pants keep me dry and comfortable.  The Descente Rover pant also have a great breath-ability for those touring or hiking days. They are light weight and have large outer-leg meshed lined vents for maximum ventilation for those vertical ascents.

Warmth: The Descente Rover pant is just a shell not providing a significant amount of insulating warmth.  These pants are great for early and late season conditions when the sun is shining and the beers are colder than the ambient temperature.  Or take them on a skin up to your favorite couloir.  Or add a pair of thermal leggings and you’re comfortable and dry in low the 30’s. Going to be colder than that, check out the insulated Stock pant.

Fit:  All the Descente pants I tried on fit like my jeans do so I would make sure to find your waist size when shopping for the Descente Rover pant.  I also enjoyed how light weight and streamlined they felt. The Motion 3D fit allows for a comfortable full range of motion without any excess bagginess.

Features: Waist Adjuster; Waterproof Outer Ventilation Zip; Bottom Leg Zip; Waterproof Back Pocket; Durable Edge Guard; Full Seam Seal

Bottom Line: The Descent Rover pant is a well crafted and durable shell that is well suited to keep you dry inside and out on warmer days or long back country adventures.  They have a simple design but have all the features you are looking for in a shell.
