Stio Second Light Alpha 2017 - 2016 Review by A Better Ski

The Stio Second Light Alpha jacket is a great mid layer under a shell on cold days or perfect for the skin track.  Polar Tech insulation makes this layer packable, light and breathable and DWR treatment keeps you dry during light rain or snow.

Stio Second Light Alpha Hooded Jacket Review

Testers: Chris, 6’0” 190lbs, tested in Large
Jen, 5’7” 155lbs, tested in Medium

Fit: In both men’s and woman’s we found the fit to be true to size.  Athletic cut keeps the jacket form fitting and allows you to layer properly, with a base layer or two underneath and a shell over the top of the Second Light Alpha it does not make you feel like a stuffed sausage like other mid layers.  The hood is perfectly shaped for underneath a helmet and is lo profile enough to be a non issue when the hood is down under a layer.

Style: The Stio Second Light Alpha hooded jacket is slim fitting and flattering when worn casually.  Jen even said “That jacket is way sexier then your normal hoodie.” which is enough reason for me to keep it around.  Reversible allows you to choose which style you would like, we tried the “Tap Shoe”, men’s, which was black on one side and green on the other.  The green did shoot nicely in photos which will help getting “likes”.

Pockets:  The pocket placement on the Stio Second Light Alpha jacket is spot on, with lower hand warmer pockets, and a left breast pocket on the black side of the jacket and a lower back pocket on the green side which will double as a stuff sack when storing, although we do wish there was a breast pocket on the green side of the jacket for cell phone storage on the skin track.

Tech: 20 denier, Meridian™ AP Stretch Mini-Ripstop is 100% nylon and coated with DWR provides great breathability and some protection from light rain or snow, it is stretchable in multiple directions and moves well as you do. The Polar Tech 60g insulation provides warmth in low temperatures and packs down nicely.

The Stio Second Light Alpha Hooded jacket is an excellent addition to your touring or layering systems.  High activity individuals will find this piece their “go-to” favorites all season.
