2018 Obermeyer Raze Jacket Review by A Better Ski

This is the 2018 Obermeyer Raze jacket. It is a cool, techie looking outer-layer that is a well crafted and great feeling jacket.  The amount of insulation is just heavy enough to provide warmth but allows for versatility on those variable days. It has a sleek design that makes me think of touring. I like the way Obermeyer uses articulated hoods that have plenty of room for you to wear a helmet underneath. The Obermeyer Raze jacket is a great choice for most conditions and would also look stylish out around town.

Waterproofing and Breath-ability:  The  The 2018 Obermeyer Raze Jacket has 15,000mm waterproof/breathable 2-way stretch fabric.  This level will allow for good weatherproofing for most of your winter conditions.  For heavy, wet snowfall, I would take out a different jacket.  The two large pit vents gives additional adjust-ability of temperature regulation.

Warmth: The Obermeyer Raze jacket has good warmth and a light weight feel. It has an 80gm body and 60gm sleeve and hood keeping the heat surrounding your core and not suffocating your arms in heat.  With just base-layer and light-weight mid-layer, the Raze will keep you warm all the way down into the 20 degree range.  Below that, better make sure to beef up your other under-layers.

Fit: The 2018 Obermeyer Raze Jacket had a nice athletic fit.  It has a light weight tech feel to it with a layer of insulation. I liked the way this jacket felt.  It allowed me to have full mobility except for a slight tug in the wrist gator when my arms were fully extended.  There was also not really any extra material bagging around.  The Raze has a good sleek feel.

Features:  Critical seam sealing guards against the elements while the high-loft polyester insulation keeps you warm in cold temps. Integrated water resistant powder skirt with Snap-Away™ technology. Zippered tricot-lined hand warmer pockets are handy for everyday use.   Mesh-lined pit vents.  2 breast pockets and a media pocket plenty large enough for your cellular device.

Bottom Line:  I thought the 2018 Obermeyer Raze Jacket was a well-made and great feeling jacket.  It also looks as good as it feels. The Obermeyer Raze is a great choice for most winter conditions whether touring the back country or touring the town.
