2018 Obermeyer Kenai Insulated Jacket Review by A Better Ski

This is the 2018 Obermeyer Kenai Insulated jacket. It is a heavy-duty, ready for the worst conditions imaginable kind of jacket. It is a very warm with a full range of motion and a comfortable feel.  This is the kind of jacket you want if you are out in stormy, wet, cold conditions.

Special thanks to Kittredge Sports in Mammoth Lakes

Tester: Dan

Size: L

Waterproofing and Breath-ability: The Kanai jacket is fully waterproofed. With 25000mm fabric, this jacket will keep you warm and dry even on the coldest and wettest of days.  While this jacket was obviously very warm, I didn’t feel like my skin was suffocating. With the addition of the two pit zip vents, I felt like this jacket had a nice breath-ability to it.

Warmth:  Warm, warm, warm, warm, warm. I don’t know how else to say it. If you run hot, this isn’t the jacket for you, unless your up in Alaska at -10 degrees.  Perfect for an average guy who wants to be warm on the top of the mountain with just a jacket and a t-shirt.

Fit:  I tried on the size Large jacket and felt like it was a little big on me. I was in between sizes on most Obermeyer Jackets and this one I could have gone with the medium. The large did have a nice loose fit and for those of you who like to wear your cloths big and baggy, the larger of the choices is the right one.

Features:  Adjustable cuffs with inner stretch thumbhole; YKK® zipper sleeve pocket; YKK® AquaGuard® zipper chest pockets; Full-length interior windguard with fleece chin protector; Interior electronics pocket with cord routing port; Adjustable interior hem drawcord; MFNG™ – Multi-Function Neckgaiter; Detachable, scratch-free goggle cloth; Fleece-lined collar

Bottom Line:  This is a perfect jacket if you are looking to stay warm and dry and protected from the elements. I think the size runs a little big but I liked the way this jacket felt and enjoyed it’s mobility. An excellent choice if you live somewhere super cold.
