2018 Mountain Hardwear Kor Strata hoodie Review by A Better Ski

This is the Kor Strata hoodie from Mountain Hardwear.  This is an interesting layer that is somewhere in between an insulated jacket and a hoodie.  This hoodie looks super versatile for a wide variety of conditions. it can be worn as an outer layer with a base-layer and a t-shirt for spring day.  Use it underneath a shell for a lightweight layer of insulation on stormy days.  As with most of Mountain Hardwear items, this piece seems lie a great choice for back-country touring adventures. .

Tester: Dan

Size: L

Waterproofing and Breath-ability:  The Kor Strata hoodie doesn’t seem like this hoodie is very waterproof.  The material is weather-resistant which means you definitely don’t want to rely of this one in a rain storm.  This jacket is also not warm enough to use this as an outer-layer on a snowy day.  Therefor, it doesn’t matter if it will keep the snow off.  If it is snowing, use a shell.  The Kor Strata hoodie is highly breath-able which makes this layer a better choice for touring days where moisture evaporation is more important than water protection.

Warmth:  The Kor Strata hoodie offers 60g. Primaloft® Gold Active insulation.  This provides a significant amount of warmth while leaving the hoodie light weight and pack-able.  Perfect for active days with cool to cold conditions.  The hoodie is loose enough to wear a fleece underneath and trim enough to wear another jacket over top.

Fit:  I liked the way the Kor Strata hoodie fit.  It felt super light, soft, and had a bit of elastic stretch.  As I stated earlier, the hoodie is loose enough to wear a fleece underneath and trim enough to wear another jacket over top offering versatility of layering choices.

Features: Primaloft® Gold Active, highly breathable, stretch insulation; Weather-resistant yet breathable mechanical stretch Nylon Ripstop; 2 secure zippered hand warmer pockets, left chest secure zippered pocket; Articulated fit – seamless under arm gusset; Adjustable hood can be worn over helmet

Bottom Line: The Kor Strata hoodie is a cool layer offering the comfort and utility of a hoodie with the features of a ski jacket.  This is a piece I would love hanging in my closet.
