2018 Descente Rogue jacket Review by A Better Ski

Today I took a look at the Descente Rogue jacket.  Rogue is a serious jacket for made to keep you warm and dry, even on those highly active days under stormy, winter conditions.  If you are looking for a well insulated jacket that has all your weatherproofing and breath-ability needs, this could be your guy. Lets look further. . .

Size: L

Waterproofing and Breath-ability:  The Descente Rogue jacket is constructed with Dermizax 20K membrane which claims to be completely waterproof and highly breath-able.  This membrane can compete with Gore-Tex in both of these categories and is a good alternative choice.  Scientifically, nothing can be both completely waterproof and breath-able but these pants score high in both categories.  They claim to have over 35k breath-ability which will allow your sweat to escape even on the most active of days.   Descente Rogue jacket is a good choice for mountaineers and back-country skiers who need a breath-able yet well insulated layer for protection against extreme winter conditions.

Warmth:  The Descente Rogue jacket has 3M THINSULATE 100G insulation.  This is a significant amount of insulation that will keep you warm in temperatures that drop well below freezing.  If you live in a cold place like Vermont of Colorado, 100G insulation is what you need to stay warm.  For Days in the 30’s or warmer, better make sure not to have too much extra layering warmth.  The large pit vents can help with regulating this well insulated jacket.

Fit:  I liked the way the Descente Rogue jacket fit size wise.  It had a good length in the body and arms and fully unrestricted movement.  The one problem with this jacket (I seem to run into this a lot) was that with the helmet on and the hood on and fully zipped, the jacket collar was just shorter than my chin and rubbed when I turned my head from side to side.  Its a shame. This is such a nice jacket but I would have put back on the rack and kept looking for one that doesn’t rub my chin.

Features:  Powder Skirt; Pit Zips; Media Pocket; Inner Mesh Pockets; Waist, Wrist & Hood Adjuster; Removable Hood; Pass Holder; Waterproof Zips; Lycra Cuffs; Stretch Liner; Full Seam Seal

Bottom Line:  The Descente Rogue jacket is a high quality and well equipped jacket made for active athletes facing tough winter conditions.  It is well insulated, waterproof and breath-able jacket that will keep you dry and warm on mountain adventures.  I just wish the collar fit my chin when my helmet is on.
