2018 Descente Canada Ski Cross jacket Review by A Better Ski
In this segment I am checking out the Descente Canada Ski Cross jacket. This jacket was designed for the Canada Ski Cross team so you know that it is packed full of every feature that Descente has to offer with top-of-the-line materials and superior craftsmanship. I can tell right away after putting this jacket on that it is a serious jacket made to handle extreme winter conditions including the cold temperatures found North of the boarder. Let’s check this thing out.
Special thanks to Kittredge Sports in Mammoth Lakes
Waterproofing and Breath-ability: The Descente Canada Ski Cross jacket is constructed with Dermizax 20K membrane which claims to be completely waterproof and highly breath-able. This membrane can compete with Gore-Tex in both of these categories and is a good alternative choice. Scientifically, nothing can be both completely waterproof and breath-able but these pants score high in both categories. The addition of pit vents and a secondary zipper that open up the front of the jacket to fresh air allows for versatility in temperature regulation. The Descente Canada Ski Cross jacket is a good choice for highly active skiers who need a high performance jacket that can keep up with them. This jacket will keep you dry from the inside and out even on your most active of days.
Warmth: The Descente Canada Ski Cross jacket comes equipped with 700 FILL DOWN and Heat Navi Liner to help keep your body heat in and distributed to the places that you need it most. This jacket will keep you warm in temperatures down to freezing levels and with the proper base and mid-layers, you could hang out comfortable in single digits and below. Be careful with this one in CA where temperatures hover around 32 degrees. Don’t layer too heavily and take advantage of the front air vent.
Fit: I enjoyed the way the Canada Ski Cross jacket felt and fit. I like the Motion 3D cut of the Descente line, trim with unrestricted movement. Additionally, the elastane in the material gives the jacket a nice stretchy feel for extra freedom of movement. The length in the torso and arms was good and the hood fit with my helmet without any uncomfortable rubbing or movement restrictions. Overall, this is a well thought out jacket design.
Features: Matte 4-Way Stretch; Carbon Dobby; Dermizax 20K; 20K; 700 FILL DOWN; Motion 3D Fit; D-LASER; Dual Vent Zip; Action Camera Pocket; Powder Skirt; Pit Zips; Media Pocket; Inner Mesh Pockets; Waist, Wrist & Hood Adjuster; Removable Hood; Pass Holder; Waterproof Zips; Lycra Cuffs; Heat Navi Liner
Bottom Line: The Descente Ski Cross jacket has every feature that one could want in a ski jacket including weatherproof, breath-able, action fit, insulated, versatile venting, pockets everywhere and more. If you are in the market for a top-of-the-line jacket that can match your high performance style in a variety of tough wintry conditions, this jacket won’t let you down.
