K2 Minaret 100 2015 Review by A Better Ski

The K2 Minaret 100 is a great boot in a class that is sometimes hit or miss. It has a ton of versatility that allows for high performance at the resort or in the backcountry. The Synchro Interlock allows you to lock the shell in place for hard charger the mountain, or release it for backcountry travel. Sometimes we find skis with ski/hike mode to be a little less powerful than those with without, but the K2 Minaret 100 can certainly hold its own. Both the K2 SpYre (All-mountain) and K2 Minaret 100 share the PowerFuse SpYne (same as men’s) that seems to offer a great flex. We found it to be smooth and fluid with a pretty long travel. The best part is that energy is stored well, and seems to rebound with decent power and energy. The K2 Minaret 100 has a 100 flex that caters to advanced or expert women skiers, but we feel that it’s approachable for more relaxed riders as well. While we haven’t had a chance to test the SpYre and Minaret side by side, we’d suspect that the SpYre is slightly more aggressive, but the Minaret still feels really good. The stance s actually slightly forward, but you can remove the spoiler if you like a more upright stance. Having it slightly forward puts us in a more aggressive stance that we found to be pretty fun, but tiring. The K2 Minaret 100 comes with an Intuition liner that feels relatively comfortable out of the box. It’s not the most customizable, but for the right foot it actually conforms really well. For those who like backcountry touring, the Minaret comes with tech fittings. We find these boots to be on the slightly heavy side for touring, but it’s nice to have the option. We think a lot of women will love the K2 Minaret 100. It offers great versatility in a comfortable and high performance package. We’d recommend it to any aggressive intermediates to expert skiers that spend a lot of time at the resort, but also want the versatility of a touring boot.
