The North Face STH 2015 Review by A Better Ski

The North Face STH glove is perfect for bluebird backcountry days, or hiking your favorite stash on a sunny resort day. These definitely won’t keep you warm in a blizzard, but for warm bluebird days you’ll appreciate the light-weight feel of these gloves. The North Face STH is made with breathable Apex ClimateBlock and durable water resistant goat leather palms. It’s an interesting combination as the goat leather makes them feel rugged and durable, but the Apex ClimateBlock is stretchy and light. They also feel really dexterous, but the goat leather does make them feel bulkier than they would if they were all Apex ClimteBlock. I’m not sure if I like this combo better than a completely “soft shell” glove, but it seems to work pretty well. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a leather glove with better dexterity. The North Face STH fits pretty true to size, although with a stretch material I found I could size down a bit and still be ok. One thing I’d love to see added is a wrist leash, but it’s not a deal breaker by any means. The Velcro cuff does a great job cinching down to keep snow out. Overall, I really like The North Face STH as a backcountry or resort glove for mild days. I could see this becoming my go to glove on bluebird days. If this had better waterproofing I could almost use it as an all season glove since my hands generally run warm and I don’t need a lot of insulation.

Size Worn: L (Hand Circumference: 8.5 Inches, Hand Length: 7.5 Inches)
What I look for in a glove: My hands run really warm, so I like a glove that isn’t too hot! I really love gloves that have removable liners so I can use them together on really cold days, or use just the shell, or just the liner. I also really like to have dexterity when skiing. I don’t necessarily need a glove that allows me to use my phone, or other small electronics, but I definitely want to be able to buckle my boots, zip my jacket, etc…
