The North Face Powderflo 2015 Review by A Better Ski

The North Face Powderflo is one of our favorite women’s gloves. It’s made with a waterproof, breathable, Gore-Tex membrane, lots of heavy insulation, a FlashDry liner, and a wrist oven leash. So what does this mean for your hands? Well a Gore-Tex membrane will helps to keep your hands dry when the wet snow is really coming down. 200g of insulation on the back of the hand, and 150g on the palm will keep your hands nice and toasty. These are some of the warmest gloves we’ve tried, and almost on par with some of the warmer mittens. The FlashDry liner does a great job wicking moisture away from your skin, and allowing the breathable Gore-Tex membrane to work. Now with all that insulation, The North Face Powderflo isn’t the most breathable glove, but chances are you’re not wearing these gloves if you’re hands are always warm. The wrist Oven Leash is a really cool feature that allows you to use the leash with a chemical (hot hands) heater to help keep your hands that much warmer. The wrist leash itself works really well to keep The North Face Powderflo from falling off the lift if you take them off. As if that’s not enough to love, The North Face Powderflo continues to impress even more. It is built with a women-specific fit that feels really comfortable. The articulated fit also helps to keep the hand in a more relaxed position, while still allowing you the dexterity you like in a glove. The insulation does make The North Face Powderflo feel thick and maybe not quite as dexterous as other gloves, but we were still able to buckle our boots and use most of our zippers. The extra insulation also makes The North Face Powderflo feel quite comfortable. A gauntlet style wrist helps to keep snow out, and the glove fits pretty well over a jacket cuff. The only negative thing we can say about The North Face Powderflo is that the palm is made from synthetic leather and may not be as durable as true leather. The glove does seem to be made with pretty solid construction though, and seems like it would hold up pretty well over time. The North Face Powderflo is really one of our favorite gloves for women. It’s highly waterproof, very warm (for a glove), and has some pretty cool features. We could definitely recommend this glove for anyone from casual to serious resort skier.

What I look for in a glove: My hands run cold, so I like a warm glove or mitten. Also as a person who spends a lot of time in contact with the snow, I like gloves that are very waterproof and don’t soak through. Having liners is a nice benefit because they add warmth, and are easier to dry out a glove if it does get wet.
