Flylow Upslope 2015 Review by A Better Ski
The Flylow Upslope glove is named after a brewery that is right down the street from our office, so they already get some points for that. But the glove also gets some points for being pretty cool. The Flylow Upslope is a goatskin leather glove that has a gauntlet style cuff. The Flylow Upslope also happens to be the most waterproof of Flylows rugged leather glove line. It has a 10k membrane that helps keep your hands dry and ready for another run. Sure they are not Gore-Tex, but when combined with a good DWR the Flylow Upslope will keep your hands pretty dry. They are perfect in the dryer snows we usually see here in Colorado, but those in the PNW may find they wet out a bit after time in heavy wet snow. Dexterity is pretty good, and perfect for holding that can of Upslope after a long day on the mountain. The Flylow Upslope also does fine with zippers and boot buckles. Like most leathr gloves the Flylow Upslope can feel a bit stiff at first, but ted to break in well over time. Sometimes really cold temps can also stiffen things up, but for milder temps, the Flylow Upslope rock. They do have a decent amount of insulation, and for a guy like me who always runs warm, they are plenty insulated for most days on the mountain. Those who run cold are probably going to find you need a liner on really cold days, and may be better off with a warmer glove if you plan on skiing in cold often. The fit is pretty true to size and I found a large to fit just fine. The gauntlet can be a bit tight, but not to the point you can’t get your hand in. Overall the Flylow Upslope is a pretty solid glove. It’s tough, rugged design will hold up to some heavy abuse. The 10k membrane will hold out moisture pretty well, especially in dryer climates. They are decently warm, and great for milder days on the mountain. We really like the gauntlet style wrist, and even though it looks a little weird, it works really well. We could definitely recommend the Flylow Upslope to skiers in drier areas like the rockies.
Size Worn: L (Hand Circumference: 8.5 Inches, Hand Length: 7.5 Inches)
What I look for in a glove: My hands run really warm, so I like a glove that isn’t too hot! I really love gloves that have removable liners so I can use them together on really cold days, or use just the shell, or just the liner. I also really like to have dexterity when skiing. I don’t necessarily need a glove that allows me to use my phone, or other small electronics, but I definitely want to be able to buckle my boots, zip my jacket, etc…
