Armada ARw 86 Ski Review

Armada ARw 86 2017 - 2016 Review by A Better Ski

The Armada ARw 86 felt like a stiff and playful ski with a forgiving and easy going feel. It seemed approachable enough for intermediate riders, but could also hold up well enough for women that like to go fast. It has decent edge hold and feels at home on piste. At the same time it held up well in soft snow and has semi-playful feel that all-mountain freestyle skiers will enjoy.

Armada ARw 86 On-Mountain Video Ski Review

Bindings: Tyrolia Aaattack 13

Size: 170cm

Days: 1

Riders: Lauren

Conditions: Soft Chop, Groomed, Hard Pack

Ski Personality: The Armada ARw 86 feels like a stiff and playful ski. It has some decent stability, but at the same time it has a fun and poppy flex.

Turn Initiation and Carving: The Armada ARw 86 has a forgiving quality that we enjoyed. It feels approachable enough that intermediate skiers could ski this. It feels easy to get on edge, and seems to prefer short to medium radius turns. The flex is nice and poppy, and we found some decent energy in and out of turns.

Speed: The ski felt quite approachable and yet still had enough underfoot to ski it a bit harder. It holds up well at speed, but still has a nice forgiving feel.

Uneven/Variable Terrain: At 86mm underfoot the Armada ARw 86 doesn’t totally feel at home in variable snow off piste, but we still found it really fun in shallow chop. The ski has a fun and poppy flex, and has a bit of a surfy and slashy feel. It’s not going to blast through variable snow, and you can get bounced around at speed. Still, if you’re style is more about bouncing and slashing through variable snow it could be a lot of fun.

Bottom Line: The Armada ARw 86 feels like a forgiving all-mountain freestyle ski with a very fun and poppy feel. The ski is very playful and easy to swing around. Our ladies found it fun and energetic on groomers, and yet very playful in soft snow. It could be good for freestyle skiers that want to ski other parts of the mountain as well. It’s not for hard chargers or ex-racer types.
